Aftermath of a missing Journalist
Who?
Jamal Khashoggi
What?
Disappeared last week
Where?
Istanbul, Turkey
Why is it important, relevant, worth consideration or keeping an eye on?
On 2 October Jamal Khashoggi, a Saudi Arabian journalist known for his critical views on the Riyadh Government walked into the Saudi diplomatic mission in Istanbul and disappeared.
Almost immediately the Turkish government began putting pressure on Riyadh to release Khashoggi. Later the Turks claimed to have video and audio evidence that Khashoggi was killed in the embassy.
The United States has now threaten to impose sanctions against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia because of the the incident.
Riyadh has responded by clearly stating that they will retaliate in kind in the event of any such sanctions. Retaliatory action by Saudi Arabia would almost certainly be within the oil sector, as it is one of the major players in the world economy of oil.
As a result of the economic sabre rattling the world markets have take a down turn for Saudi Arabia: “the drop in Saudi stocks was the result of panic selling because of several political and economic factors.”
The future of this case remains unclear and the stakes are high.

Why is it important, relevant, worth consideration or keeping an eye on?
The saga of the Brazilian Presidential elections continues this week with more protest marches. Far-right candidate Jair Bolsonaro who won the preliminary election last week did not secure the necessary 50% to avoid a run-off election against leftist candidate Frenando Haddad at the end of the month.
The violence caused by the protests has led both candidates to call for calm and in order to bolster their PR campaigns which had shifted gear looking toward the run-off on the 28th of October.
Furthermore Bolsonaro has rejected the title of “Far-right” as well as denying claims that he has ties to former Trump strategist Steve Bannon.
The election process promises to be drama filled in the coming weeks with increased violence and protests.
